MORE CATCHING UP!!!

A week ago we visited the Karen Blixen home. It

is beautiful. It is in very good condition, but we were

not allowed to take pictures inside. This is the house

from the parking lot. You all need to watch "Out of

Africa" again!...for the music if nothing else!! Her

Estate is only about a 30 min. drive from out flat.

She did a lot of good for the people here, especially

in the education of the children. The whole area around

her estate is called "Karen", and there are numerous

Hospitals, schools and businesses named after her.

Hey kids!! How would you like to bathe like this? This is at the

elephant Orphanage.



This mom and her two babies came wandering

in to drink from the water hole!!..Only a face

a mother could love!!

This is the newest addition...he is only two

months old.

These guys were just playing!! They are not hurting

each other!!

Driving to Kasrani!!

This is the Kasrani Ward church house. Dad and I

speak here on Feb. 12, our first Public Affairs

sacrament meeting. We will do this once a month

for the next 11 months, covering the Nairobi Stake.

We have to find the church houses before hand,

because they are so remote and hard to find. We

left Nairobi at 8:30 Sat. morning, got lost 5 times,

and returned to our flat at about 4:15 in the after-

noon. At least we know where to go on the 12th!!!

Even finding a church house in Kenya is an

adventure!!!

This is Kelly, and Dorcus. They are cousins.

They were baptized about one hour after this

picture was taken.

We just met these members at the church. The

sister next to me is the mother of the young man

on the front row, far right, in glasses. She told me

how one year ago he was very sick, and went blind.

He had a blessing, and he has gradually

regained his sight...she said she knew he would,

and bore her testimony of the church. Their faith

is something to behold.

This is bishop Charles...he works at the center

with us. He was at the ward when we got there.

His little boy was with him and we wanted a

picture of him also, but he kept running behind

the church house!! Charles said...."I think he

doesn't listen to me well".

Believe it or not, this is inside the Kasrani ward Church

and not the local police station!! This is how every

library looks in every ward and branch in Kenya..

don't know about the rest of Africa but I would imagine

it is the same story!!

Okay...the next three pictures of the road we

took up and back to Kasrani. This is a brand new

free-way that the Chinese are building. It has

no marking, no directions for on and off ramps,

there are speed bumps, and on this one section

below, cars were actually going on the wrong

side of the road. We were also, we were just

following the cars in front of us. About one

mile up the road, we were "funneled" onto

the right side. Notice in the two pictures below

the dashboard of our truck, you can kind of tell

which direction we are headed...then look at all of

the cars and trucks around us...we are headed

straight ahead, but if you need to exit, turn around,

or change directions, you just do it....we got lost 5

times getting to Kasrani!! We made it however!!

Never a dull moment in Nairobi!

Catching up!!

This isn't a very good picture, but we had just

unloaded all of the cups, plates and spoons...

this little "cook" lady had been laughing and

squealing because everyone would have a plate

now!! I was talking to someone else and missed

"the moment"!!

This is the big pot we bought for Stephen and the

kids with the some of the Christmas money.

He still hasn't used it. We think he just doesn't

want to wear it out!! Dick talked to him about

letting them use it because it would make it

easier of the lady that does the cooking, and

they children could all eat at once...I think he

finally realized it was better to use it! You want

to talk conservative!!

While Janet and I were sitting in the truck waiting

for Stephen, Ron and Dick to get a box of 2nd and 3rd

hand books for the kids, these two little sisters

came walking down the street from school. We

watched them for about five min. They never

let go of each others hands....they were laughing

and talking all the way...kids are pretty much the

same the whole world over....super special that is!!
