February Happenings!!

On Saturday we went to the Baby Elephant Orphanage.

They rescue baby elephants and bring them into

this park on the outskirts of Nairobi. They give them

names, and the caregivers, the men in green, act like

their parent. They even sleep in a bunk in the stall

of the elephant they are assigned. They teach them

how to behave before they can then be introduced

back into the bush. Enjoy the elephants! I will send you more pictures later.! (Got to go, they are delivering

us a new mattress!! We have been sleeping on 2 inches

of foam on box springs...hasn't been all that bad...still.....)

This is Solomon being happy. He was in our office

and we were discussing something (neither one of

us can remember what) and Solomon just clapped his

hands...he always does that when something good

happens!! I wanted a picture of it! We go to the

Ministry of Immigration with him on Monday.

That will be an interesting experience.

This is Josephine and her daughter. She is a member of

the Kasarani Ward where dad and I first spoke.

This is Josephine. She makes absolutely beautiful

jewelry. She is modeling a masai neck deacoration.

Janet, Solomon and an over the top smile on Linda's

face....this was at Kenyata University Hospital the

day of the Neo-Natal training.

This is Betterman, (isn't that a great name)

and the banner we had made for the neo-natal training

the humanitarian missionaries did. They trained

over 100 people and gave a few thousand dollars

worth of materials to the hospitals around

Nairobi and Eldoret. Betterman is the Sunday

School Superintendant in the Upper Hill Ward.

He designs and makes these banners.

Me...then Sister Usi, her husband is Elder Usi, the

Elder Authority Seventy, then Screvin Usi, their son.

Screvin has been our translator while we have been

teaching Lucas, he speaks perfect english as well as

swahili, then Lucas, in a brand new shirt. He got

a new job, cleaning swimming pools!!....then that

cute Elder Pugs!! These people are amazing!! Sis.

Usi is the one who brought Lucas for us to teach!!

This is our dear friend and buddy Lucas.

He is a jewel!! He will be getting baptized in

two weeks! I gave him a copy of this picture.

I don't think he had ever seen a picture of

himself. He kept looking at it and smiling, then

he turned to me and said "Thank you thank you."

He speaks very little english, but he speaks

beautiful swahili!!

You can see the front bumper of our truck in the

lower left-hand corner...we park right next to these

beautiful flowers every morning at the service center!!

I snapped this picture of Dad, Solomon and Dick

on our way to lunch at the "Oleander Cafe", and

then realized we are not allowed to take pictures

along this road!!! I hurried and put my camera

away. We walk right past the British High Command.

If you look close you can see a guard right by dad..
