Steven's Orphanage Christmas 2011

These are the pictures of our trip to Steven's Orphanage. I wanted

to get them up for Christmas for you. For Friends, Our children and

grandchildren went without any presents from grandma and grandpa

this Christmas so they could share their Christmas with Steven. He is a

member of the church and his goal in life is to help 1,000 orphans. Right

now he has 81. We were able to put new tin on the roof of his school, and

dorms, and give lunch (peanut butter sandwiches...which Steven said they

have never tasted before), and school and hygiene kits to each one of them.

Enjoy the pictures. They were all so appreciative, and needless to say,

we all had the most marvelous Christmas ever. Thanks again for

sharing.....

This is one of the teachers, behind him is where they dry the clothes.
This is where they wash dishes, and clothes.
This is the kitchen. They cook on the rocks. No chimney, or

even a "hole" to let out the smoke.

Enter Father Christmas!! This was Deeken, from the Office!

He made a great Santa!! Enjoy the Pictures!! They were so

excited.
They lined up the children to greet Father Christmas.









This is Steven explaining to the kids how special all of the items

in the bag are...he told them we would be coming back in a month

or so to read to them, and play more games, and he said, "We must

respect all of the things we received because many people all over

the world gave their money to help us get these nice things. When

these friends come back we don't want to be embarrassed because

the nice books are ripped, or missing their covers."

These foam pads on the roof of the 'kitchen' are the extra beds they sleep

on.

This is the girls dorm. Same size as boys...The group that met

Steven at the mall with us sent 12 mattresses....They sleep 6-7 kids

to a single bed....the rest of them sleep on the floor on the foam

pads, or outside under the stars!

This is the boys dorm. About 8 X IO ft. at the most.



Just as we were leaving, this little one came up to me,

pointed to my badge and said, "Would you help me say

these words", so we read them together.

These two pictures show Steven and his wife Florence

at our family home evening telling us about how he wants

the school bags and hygiene kits made smaller..... He said there was too much

stuff in the bags, and he didn't want the kids to get "spoiled "!!

We put the extra items in boxes and he will have enough

bar soap, notebooks, shampoo, pencils, erasers for one whole year. He

had us cut the erasers into two pieces because he said they were too big.
